Description

Hello!!! I hope you’ve been smart and have waited to read the six pages of this story IN ORDER, as denoted by the TITLES of the darn things. (You’d be amazed how many people don’t get the fact that I’m going out of my way to make this easier for you people!^^;) The actual story is written below. (Stay tuned!)

For my Intro to Sequential Art class, we were most recently asked to write a short children’s story that could appeal to both children and adults. I was allowed to use published characters – which made this poor soul very happy – and so I borrowed Dream from the Sandman graphic novels (haven’t read ’em? You should!) as well as the Dreaming world, the gate guardians, and Matthew (the raven). It could be any raven, but I like Matthew. It’s not the happiest story, but everyone who’s read it says they like it, so it must be okay! We were then told to do watercolor illustrations, at least 6x8” in size, to enhance said story. I spent a LONG time on mine, and I, for one, like the way they turned out. I hope you do, too. And now, enjoy the first page of the story!

~+~+~+~
There was once a great and powerful king.

His kingdom was a vast, strange, and wondrous place. It wasn’t a place that you could get to by car or by train, by land, air or sea. It was far too strange for that.
This king ruled over the land of dreams. When you fell asleep at night, your dream self would enter his domain. The king ruled over both good dreams and bad, happy dreams that left you smiling when you woke up, and nightmares that made you afraid. He had skin as pale as the full moon, hair as black as a raven’s wing, and deep, mysterious eyes as dark as the midnight sky. He was very intelligent, and had lived for a very long time, though to most people he looked like a young man.
Although the King of Dreams was a good king, he was often lonely. He had no one to love, and no one who loved him. There were only dreams, nightmares, and strange creatures to keep him company.
Every once in a while, a dreamer stumbled upon his castle by chance, and would find the king in his throne room.

And because I’m nice, I’ve given you lovely little links to the next pages…

I haven't seen the original, but I reckon that the scanned version still has very beautiful colours. :) I also like how you worked in the flames in his robes, for each of his appearances in the story.

And I see that the ruby's there, too. Perhaps this was set before he got imprisoned? ;3
